Albert Imperato is a graduate of Stanford University and has worked for more than 20 years in the recording and music industry. He co-founded 21C Media Group in January 2000 and currently manages the promotion and assists in the career and strategic development of 21C Media Group's diverse client and artist roster.
His experience from 1987-1999 at PolyGram/Universal Classics included positions in sales, marketing and publicity, management of Deutsche Grammophon's label operations in the US and, most recently, as Senior VP of Universal's classical music business in the US for artists and projects on the Decca, DG and Philips Classics labels. His accomplishments in the record industry reflect his passion to bring the richness of classical music to the broadest possible public. Working closely with many of the world's leading artists, including John Eliot Gardiner, Valery Gergiev, Pierre Boulez, Gil Shaham, Cecilia Bartoli and Anne-Sophie Mutter, Mr. Imperato worked vigorously to promote traditional classical music to new audiences (with such initiatives as the award-winning MAD ABOUT series of compact discs, the Gil Shaham/"Four Seasons" promotion with cable television's "The Weather Channel", and the ambitious "100 REASONS YOU SHOULD BE LISTENING TO CLASSICAL MUSIC" campaign for DG's centenary in 1998), and to promote new music to traditional classical music listeners (such as his long-term efforts on behalf of the music of Olivier Messiaen).
Mr. Imperato has given guest lectures at music schools and to arts presenters, and he frequently hosts special classical music events, including such initiatives as DG's "20/21" Club at Columbia University's Miller Theater.
He writes regularly about classical music and contributes an online journal for Gramophone magazine.
