Caramoor Announces Appointment of Kathy Schuman as Vice President, Artistic Programming and Executive Producer
Caramoor – “New York’s premier summer music festival” (Huffington Post) – is delighted to name Kathy Schuman as Vice President, Artistic Programming and Executive Producer. Schuman, who launches this newly created appointment on December 1, will be a key member of Caramoor’s senior management and the leader of its programming team. She was the natural choice for the post, leaving a distinguished position as Vice President and Artistic Director of G. Schirmer/AMP, and boasting a long and extensive classical resume that includes a 15-year tenure in programming at Carnegie Hall, where she was instrumental in spearheading efforts to present genres beyond the classical mainstream, including new music, early music, jazz, world and folk. This is in perfect keeping with the philosophy of Caramoor, which balances a deep commitment to the symphonic, operatic and chamber repertoire with a passion for musical and artistic diversity.

In the new role, Schuman will be responsible for helping to develop, refine, and implement Caramoor’s artistic mission. Working with Haydon and the artistic team, she will lead the development of its 70-plus performance programs each year, presenting diverse and rich offerings that highlight Caramoor’s commitment to artistry, discovery, collaboration, friendliness, and integrity. In addition, she will oversee Caramoor’s mentoring and education programs, lectures, and special programming projects, working to integrate their vision. Besides developing and nurturing long-term artistic relationships, she will also work closely on programming budgets with the CEO, CFO, and artistic team. Her appointment helps fill the gap that is soon to be left by longtime Managing Director Paul Rosenblum, who announced his upcoming retirement in June.
About Kathy Schuman
Kathy Schuman has enjoyed a long and varied path in the music industry. As Vice President and Artistic Director of G. Schirmer/AMP, she managed a roster of Pulitzer, Grammy, Oscar, Tony and Emmy Award-winning composers. For 15 years she served as Artistic Administrator of Carnegie Hall, where she helped program its three venues in a wide variety of musical genres. During this tenure, she was closely involved in the opening of Zankel Hall, which led to significantly more presentations of new music, early music, jazz, world and folk. As the primary coordinator of Carnegie’s robust commissioning program, she oversaw approximately 200 commissions, including new works by David Lang, Kaija Saariaho, John Adams, Brad Mehldau, Nico Muhly, Missy Mazzoli, and Meredith Monk. She began her career in arts management at Frank Salomon Associates, where she worked for eight years, both as an artist manager and as Coordinator of the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont. She then moved to Europe, where she was the Managing Director of the European Chamber Music Association in Bremen, Germany, before relocating to London, where she worked for the Arts Council of England as Administrator of the Contemporary Music Network touring program, and as Associate Director of Intermusica Artist Management.
