Daniel Hope to complete tenure at Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in 2013
Daniel Hope says: “The expiration of my contract comes at a time in my life when I am inundated with exciting and creative offers and projects. In order to take full advantage of these, I feel it is time to restructure my calendar. The appointment of Markus Fein as the new Intendant is very good news indeed! He is a gifted and charismatic music manager with strong ideas. I am confident that he will develop the Festival in new ways and I wish him the very best in his endeavours!
It has been my honour and pleasure to be associated with this Festival for more than 20 years. Since my discovery of the delightful province of Mecklenburg, I have brought many of my esteemed musical friends here. I should like to thank Dr. Matthias von Hülsen and his current team, with whom I was able to realize many of my musical ideas. Highlights of these include working with the outstanding young musicians who, for the last three years, were a central part of my exchange programme with Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center; Bechara El Khoury’s War Concerto for violin and orchestra, which is being performed around the world following its Mecklenburg premiere in 2011; and my “Tu was!” (“Do Something!”) project, where I was joined in concert by Thomas Quasthoff and other friends with the aim of bringing awareness to the global issue of climate change; from the proceeds, we were able to plant 1000 trees in the forests of Mecklenburg. I can look back on a highly successful and enjoyable tenure. I will always cherish my memories of this wonderful Festival and – above all – of our superb audience. But not before we have presented a stellar 2013 Festival with many musical highlights!”
Daniel Hope wird seinen Vertrag als künstlerischer Direktor der Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern nach Ende des Festivals 2013 nicht weiter verlängern. Damit beendet er eine lange und fruchtbare Zusammenarbeit mit dem drittgrößten Musikfestival Deutschlands.
Daniel Hope: “Das Auslaufen meines Vertrages kommt zu einem Zeitpunkt, wo mir die spannendsten und kreativsten Impulse in meinem bisherigen Leben geboten werden. Um mich diesen wirklich widmen zu können, muß ich meine Zeiteinteilung neu ordnen. Die Ernennung von Markus Fein als neuen Intendanten begrüsse ich sehr! Ich habe Dr. Fein als kreativen und mitreißenden Kulturmanager mit starken künstlerischen Ambitionen kennengelernt. Ich bin mir sicher, dass er die Festspiele weiterentwickeln wird. Ich wünsche ihm dabei viel Erfolg!
Es war mir eine Freude und Ehre, den Festspielen seit über 20 Jahren treu zur Seite gestanden zu haben. Ich habe, genauso wie meine Musikerfreunde aus der ganzen Welt, das Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern kennen- und lieben gelernt. Mein Dank gilt Dr. Matthias von Hülsen und dem Festivalteam, mit denen ich viele musikalische Sternstunden und Ideen verwirklichen konnte: die Musiker aus der Carnegie Hall und vom Lincoln Center sind bereits seit drei Jahren fester Bestandteil meiner Initiative ‘Brückenschlag’; Bechara El Khoury’s “War Concerto” wird nach dessen Uraufführung 2011 in Neubrandenburg nun in der ganzen Welt häufig gespielt und mit meinem “Tu Was!” Projekt 2010 auf Schloss Ulrichshusen, setzte ich zusammen mit Thomas Quasthoff und weiteren Freunden ein Zeichen gegen den Klimawandel: aus dem Erlös unseres Benefizkonzertes konnten 1000 Bäume in Mecklenburg gepflanzt werden. So kann ich mit Freude auf eine sehr erfolgreiche und schöne Zeit zurückblicken und werde dieses wunderbare Festival und – vor allem – unser einmaliges Publikum immer tief in meinem Herz tragen. Zunächst freue ich mich aber auf die Festspiele 2013 mit vielen musikalischen Höhepunkten!”
