medici.tv presents live preview of Anoushka Shankar’s “Traveller”

On July 3 at 10pm CET (4pm EDT), medici.tv will broadcast Anoushka Shankar’s exclusive preview concert, featuring music from her forthcoming Deutsche Grammophon album Traveller.  Produced by Javier Limón, Traveller marks Shankar’s DG label debut and is scheduled for release in October, with related tours in Europe this autumn, India in early 2012, and the U.S. next spring.  The project, which Shankar calls a “raga flamenco journey,” originated with her wish to retrace the 1,000-year-old bond between Indian and Spanish musical traditions.  medici.tv will broadcast the concert live from the 12th Festival of World and Sacred Music of Girona.  This world-premiere event, made possible with special support from ROLEX, will be available on medici.tv and www.deutschegrammophon.com, first live and then streamed for 90 days, free of charge.

Anoushka Shankar will be accompanied on sitar by Indian and flamenco musicians, including Sandra Carrasco, vocals; Pirashanna Thevarajah and Ramon Porrina, percussion; Sanjeev Shankar, shehnai; Alvaro Antona, flamenco guitar; Padma Shankar, violin; Shalini Patnaik, Indian classical dancer, and Kenji Ota, tanpura, with special guests Pepe Habichuela on flamenco guitar and Ricardo Mino on flamenco piano.  More information about Anoushka Shankar is available at www.deutschegrammophon.com.

The freshly redesigned medici.tv has reaped acclaim as one of the web’s leading classical music experiences.  A column by editor-in-chief James Jolly in the June issue of Gramophone magazine details the medici.tv experience at length, marveling over the “treasures aplenty” on the site.  The medici.tv app for iPads, iPhones, and other digital devices was recently named one of the top five apps for classical music by WQXR, the classical music station of New York City.
