Memorial Concert for Claudio Abbado, Broadcast Live on medici.tv

After his death in Bologna last January, the much lamented Claudio Abbado will be remembered in concert on June 9, 2014 at the Dresden Music Festival. Abbado was originally scheduled to conduct his Orchestra Mozart Bologna at the Dresden Frauenkirche on that date himself. Instead, the prestigious Mahler Chamber Orchestra, founded in 1997 with the late maestro’s support, will pay tribute to its mentor under the baton of celebrated Italian conductor Daniele Gatti. The program includes vocal works by Gustav Mahler (“Urlicht” from his Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection” and excerpts from his Rückert-Lieder) featuring Waltraud Meier; excerpts from Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre sung by René Pape; and Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, “Rhenish.” The concert will be broadcast live at medici.tv, both online and on its mobile application.
