Rudolph Ganz & The Last Romantics
Dominic Chamot
FUG860
• Album release: Nov 6
Rudolph Ganz, one of the great forgotten figures of early twentieth-century music, was a pianist, conductor, composer, close friend of Busoni, and champion of Ravel in the United States. Through eleven works, including five world premiere recordings, award-winning German-Swiss pianist Dominic Chamot retraces Ganz’s artistic journey at the crossroads of Romanticism and Modernism, from his early piano miniatures to the more daring harmonic language of his later works. The album also contextualizes Ganz’s own compositions with those of composers who shaped his artistic world and dedicated important works to him: Christian Sinding, Ferruccio Busoni, and Maurice Ravel.

Cantando en la Ciudad de los Ángeles
La Boz Galana / Concerto Scirocco / Sebastián León / Giulia Genini
FUG881
• Album release: Nov 6
Cantando en la Ciudad de los Ángeles – Christmas Villancicos by Gaspar Fernández in Viceregal Mexico offers a re-creation of the Christmas villancico tradition as heard in early seventeenth-century Puebla Cathedral, where Fernández served as chapel master. The album was conceived as a musical companion to Mexican musicologist Ireri E. Chávez Bárcenas‘s book Sounding Race, Identity, and Devotion in Puebla de los Ángeles (Oxford University Press), and provides a window into a tradition that combined popular poetry, dance forms, voices of diverse origins, and devotional expression. Concerto Scirocco, directed by Giulia Genini, lends its expertise in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century instrumental repertoire, joined by the singers of La Boz Galana, all under the artistic direction of Sebastián León. This is the fourth release in Outhere Music’s Fuga Latina collection, dedicated to honoring the music and artists of Latin America.

Conversations: Schoenfeld, Stravinsky, Larsen, & R. Schumann
Trio Caspar
DE3641
• Album release: Nov 20
The freshly launched Colburn Collection expands with a second volume: Conversations, featuring Colburn’s inaugural Honors Chamber Music Ensemble, Trio Caspar. The trio was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2026 Fischoff Competition, and Conversations marks its debut album. Alongside Schumann’s Märchenerzählungen (“Fairy Tale Narratives”) and Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du soldat, Paul Schoenfeld’s 1990 Trio draws on the klezmer tradition, while Libby Larsen’s Slang blends jazz, boogie, funk, and contemporary classical idioms into an unmistakably American voice.

Felix Mendelssohn: Hebrides Overture, Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, & A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Maxim Emelyanychev / Scottish Chamber Orchestra
CKD795
• Album release: Nov 20
Following up on their critically acclaimed first album devoted to Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphonies Nos. 3 & 5 (winner of the Trophées Radio Classique, Amadeus d’oro, and many other accolades), conductor Maxim Emelyanychev and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra have recorded a second volume comprising three works inspired by the same composer’s literary passions. Starting with the Hebrides Overture – the result of a devotion to Sir Walter Scott that led Mendelssohn to take a trip to Scotland – the program continues with the Goethe-inspired Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage Overture and ends with the incidental music to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The latter work also features sopranos Hilary Cronin and Rowan Pierce and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus.

The Deeps Have Music
Beth Taylor, mezzo-soprano; Hamish Brown, piano
CKD794
Released: Oct 2
Label: Linn Records
“Beth Taylor’s voice is almost shockingly beautiful, especially when unspooling long lines of text … no one today offers the majesty and dramatic insight of Taylor, whose version [of the title song by Elgar] sets a new standard. … Her sturdy, burgundy colored lower register sinks comfortably into contralto territory. It’s a plush instrument used with intelligence, especially her phrasing, every line delivered with utmost care without being fussy.” (Tom Huizenga, NPR)

American Tunes #1: André Previn, Sebastian Currier
Anne-Sophie Mutter
ALPHA 1254
Released: Aug 21
Label: Alpha Classics
“The violinist has close relationships with [the] works’ two composers, the first of whom – André Previn – was her husband for several years, and maintained a close connection with Mutter even after their divorce. That intimacy shines through clearly in Mutter’s perceptive and deeply passionate account of Previn’s 2012 Violin Concerto no.2: she maintains a thick, resonant and deeply expressive sound throughout his sometimes Bartók- or Hindemith-like writing, and her strongly defined playing serves his neo-Classical clarity well. There’s wonderfully incisive, gritty playing, too, from her backing band of Mutter’s Virtuosi, captured so closely that you can almost hear the texture of bow on string.” (The Strad)

Barber Zorn Glass: Violin Concertos, Partita for the Firebird
Geneva Lewis (violin), BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Gemma New
DE3638
Released: Oct 2
Label: Delos
“Samuel Barber’s concerto receives an airy, poetic reading with Lewis and New embracing the music’s lyrical pastoralism while pointing up the opening movement’s scotch snap. … John Zorn’s Partita for the Firebird is a modernist take on a baroque suite … Lewis’s virtuosity is on full display with laser-focused double stopping and filigree pianissimos at the very top of the instrument. … [In the Glass,] Lewis’s silvery tone is especially haunting in the pensive slow movement.” (Clive Paget, The Guardian)
