Q2 Music celebrates “American Mavericks” with live webast (3/26) and more
On March 26 at 7pm, Q2 Music presents “American Mavericks: Music and Conversation with Michael Tilson Thomas,” an exclusive evening of performance and conversation at The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WQXR, an intimate and acoustically-superior live-event venue and broadcast studio.
The event is the centerpiece of Q2 Music’s three-week companion festival (March 8-30) to San Francisco Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas’s “American Mavericks” multi-city tour, which makes its New York stop this week. In anticipation of their Carnegie Hall concerts, special guests – including Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Adams, pianist Jeremy Denk, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet – will join Tilson Thomas for performances and conversation exploring the works of Charles Ives and other pioneering American composers, including Adams himself. Q2 Music’s Nadia Sirota and WQXR’s David Garland will host the evening.
The event will be available to audiences everywhere as a live video webcast at http://wqxr.org/mttja/. More information is available at www.greenespace.org.
Beyond The Greene Space event, Q2 Music’s festival has a wide array of special programs devoted to “American Mavericks,” including a weekday show hosted by Tilson Thomas; innovators such as David Byrne and Zoë Keating sharing their own “American Mavericks” playlists; and recordings of select American Mavericks concerts – including Alarm Will Sound and the JACK Quartet – for on-demand listening.
