The Knights Welcome Shruti Adhar as New Executive Director

The Knights – the orchestral collective hailed as “one of Brooklyn’s sterling cultural products” (New Yorker) – is thrilled to name Shruti Adhar as its new Executive Director. Adhar, who launches the new appointment on June 1, leaves a distinguished position as Director of Development and Engagement at the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. A graduate of Yale and Columbia whose extensive arts administrative experience also includes previous posts with New York’s Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Music Fund, she comes to the new role with exceptional leadership skills and a passion for artistic and business innovation.

Adhar comments:

“I have been an admirer of The Knights and their dynamic artistry for a long time, and I am honored to have the opportunity to join such a visionary orchestra. The Knights epitomize the future of music-making, with their inventive spirit and collaborative process. It is a true privilege to build upon their continued success.”

Her appointment represents the conclusion of an extensive, months-long search. Carmela Haklisch, President of The Knights’ Board of Trustees, explains:

“Shruti brings distinctive leadership and exceptional capabilities to The Knights, a keen appreciation for artistic inventiveness, and the joy of entrepreneurial ventures.”

Colin and Eric Jacobsen, Co-Founders and Artistic Directors of The Knights, add:

“We can’t wait to begin working with Shruti. She seems a natural fit, possessing what we think of as distinctly ‘Knightsian’ qualities – an adventurous spirit, a readiness to tackle challenges of all sorts, and a collaborative approach that manifests itself with an open and graceful communication style.”
