This Sunday, Krakauer & Tagg livestream two album release concerts

This Sunday, May 10, Grammy-nominated, genre-bending, classical, klezmer and world music clarinetist David Krakauer and innovative composer, arranger, pianist and producer Kathleen Tagg livestream two 75-minute album release concerts. Celebrating this week’s release of Breath & Hammer, the performances will feature intimate, acoustic versions of repertoire from the new recording alongside some of the duo’s other old favorites and new arrangements, all filmed with professional-quality audio in a multi-camera shoot. Both concerts will be followed by record signings and online meet-and-greets.
Breath & Hammer is due for release this Friday, May 8, on the duo’s own Table Pounding Records label. Performed solely on clarinet, piano and Tagg’s self-styled “piano orchestra” of interwoven preparations and samples, all integrated into a multi-layered, quasi-orchestral soundscape, the record combines the duo’s own compositions with their original arrangements of music by close friends and collaborators. These include accordionist, composer and pianist Rob Curto, maverick composer-saxophonist John Zorn, Cuban percussionist Roberto Rodriguez, accordionist and klezmer specialist Emil Kroitor, and Syrian composer and clarinet virtuoso Kinan Azmeh, who describes the duo’s performance as “truly beautiful and inspiring.” The album is already available for pre-order from Bandcamp and Apple Music, and will be listed on Spotify, Deezer and Tidal on Friday.
