Schubert: Piano Trios
Edgar Moreau, cello; David Moreau, violin; Jérémie Moreau, piano
CD / digital
Release date: April 24
Erato cellist Edgar Moreau joins forces with his siblings, violinist David Moreau and pianist Jérémie Moreau, for this new recording of Schubert’s Piano Trios No. 1 in B-flat and No. 2 in E-flat, both written just a year before the composer’s premature death in 1828. Also included are new piano trio arrangements of a selection of Schubert’s best-loved songs: “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” (arranged by the Moreau brothers themselves) and “Du bist die Ruh,” “Auf dem Wasser zu singen,” and “Ständchen” (all arranged by Dimitri Soudoplatoff). The Moreaus say: “To play Schubert together, as brothers, is more than simply a matter of making music. It becomes an intimate conversation, a dialogue in hushed voices that crosses time and memory. … It is as if Schubert’s voice were joining with ours to tell a story – a story of life with all its joys and in all its fragility.”
