Evelyn Kocak

Evelyn Kocak is 21C’s digital editor. Previously, she worked as associate editor at OPERA NEWS magazine, contributing profiles, reviews, and a monthly column entitled “Noteworthy & Now,” highlighting notable events in classical music. Her feature “Balanchine on Broadway” was nominated for an ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award for excellence in writing on music.

Prior to her work as a writer, Evelyn was a professional ballet dancer. She began her career as an apprentice with New York City Ballet, and danced professionally with the Staatsoper Berlin and Pennsylvania Ballet, where she achieved the rank of soloist.

Evelyn is an MFA candidate in Creative Nonfiction at NYU, where she also teaches undergraduate creative writing.
